What began as a promising bid for her third Fitness Olympia title turned into a nightmare for Missy Truscott during the 2023 Olympia in Orlando, FL. After winning the first of two scored rounds in her division, Truscott looked poised to cement her legacy—but fate had other plans.
In a video posted Nov. 11, 2023, Truscott revealed the shocking extent of her injuries: a ruptured ACL and tears to both the inner and outer meniscus of her left knee. The injuries forced her to halt her routine mid-performance, abruptly ending her quest for another Olympia crown.
“It was excruciating,” Truscott admitted, describing the pain radiating through her left knee and quadriceps. Fortunately, MRI results confirmed that, while severe, she avoided additional tears to her quadriceps.

Truscott has already scheduled prehab and post-op rehab to repair her damaged ligaments. Though the recovery process is expected to take several months, the two-time Fitness Olympia champion expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support she’s received from fans and fellow athletes alike.
Despite the setback, Truscott remains optimistic about her future in the sport:
“I’ve made a career out of bodybuilding and I’m so excited to see that the IFBB Fitness division is growing. We have a lot of talented women coming into the sport, and I’m super excited to see how much it’s going to grow.”

During Truscott’s routine, 2021 Fitness Olympia champion Whitney Jones threw a shark prop off a pole—a move Truscott called “petty” and “beneath a champion.” Given that Truscott’s Team Apex Training logo features a great white shark, the act was seen as a pointed, disrespectful gesture.
While disappointed, Truscott chose to take the high road, focusing on the broader growth of the Fitness division rather than lingering on rivalry.
